Meet Madeline
When Madeline showed an affinity for dance at the age of three, her grandmother suggested enrolling her in ballet class, and she has been dancing ballet ever since. Madeline began training at Capitol Ballet Company at the age of eight, joined the company two years later, and remained with the company until 2014, when she moved to Salt Lake City to be part of Ballet West as a professional trainee. With Ballet West, Madeline has performed in productions of Giselle, Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, George Balanchine’s Symphony in C, and John Cranko’s Romeo and Juliet. She has toured the state of Utah as part of the educational outreach program called Ballet West for Children. Also, Madeline traveled to Fairbanks, Alaska to perform as a guest dancer in The Nutcracker. More recently, Madeline danced with The Staatliche Ballettschule Berlin in Germany as part of a Cultural Dance Exchange Program.
Madeline says, “During the eleven years I spent at Capitol, I learned what it means to be dedicated, to work hard, and to be truly passionate about something. It is impossible to put into words how much Mr. Carroll and Ms. Newton have done for me as instructors, mentors, and role models. They have given me an appreciation for the art of classical ballet that transcends the studio and even the stage. As I continue to pursue a professional career in dance, their influence on my life continues to help me grow as a dancer, an artist, and a human being. I have known since I was eleven that I wanted to pursue ballet as a profession and, because of Mr. Carroll and Ms. Newton, that dream has become a reality. They will forever have my love and respect.”
